Zucker Wein in Berlin
December 28, 2008 § Umwelten
Once upon a time there was Berlin wine [!]. We went in search of the secret at the Berlin Sugar Museum
The museum, however, did not reveal what this wine was let alone how it was made. We were left to mull and marvel over the bootleggish distillation displays and figured that Berlin Wine must have been the hard grog. Moonshine made from sugarbeet.
The Zucker-Museum is a seemingly forgotten space in the district of Wedding. Didactic information displays and models give a criss-cross overview of the cultural history and politics of sugar. Most perturbingly the histories of sugar slave trade and the connection between sugar beet and Zyklon B.
